EMDR & Art Therapy

Children & Teenagers

An age-adapted approach combining EMDR and art therapy, working with images, stories, and the body when words are not enough.

Why a different approach for younger clients?

Children and teenagers process experiences differently from adults. They may not have the words to describe what they are feeling, or they may not yet understand why certain situations trigger strong reactions. An approach that works through images, drawing, metaphor, and play can be far more accessible, and just as effective.

Sessions are adapted to each child's age, developmental stage, and way of communicating.

Who can this help?

Children who have experienced a traumatic event
Anxiety, fears, or phobias
School difficulties or social anxiety
Grief or family changes (separation, bereavement)
Emotional dysregulation or anger
Low self-esteem or negative self-image
Teenagers navigating identity, transitions, or difficult relationships
Children of expat families adjusting to new environments

How I work with children and teenagers

I draw on EMDR and art therapy together. Art therapy allows the child to express what is difficult to put into words, through drawing, collage, or storytelling. EMDR then helps to process the underlying experiences at a deeper level, gently and at the child's own pace.

I work in both French and English, which is particularly helpful for bilingual children or those from expat families who may be navigating two languages and two cultural worlds at once.

A note for parents

I always begin with a parent consultation before starting work with a child or teenager. This allows me to understand the context, answer your questions, and ensure the approach is right for your child.

Confidentiality is important: what a child shares in sessions is kept private, unless there is a safeguarding concern. I will keep you informed of the general direction of the work without sharing the content of sessions.

Online or in person?

Sessions for children and teenagers can take place online or in person in Montpellier. Online sessions work well for many younger clients, particularly teenagers who are comfortable with video. For younger children, in-person sessions may be preferable, we can discuss what feels right for your child.
